Target group

Students applying for entry into an English-speaking university, and all adult students who wish to demonstrate their English proficiency through a recognized examination, including the following:

TOEFL: an examination for students who plan to study in undergraduate or graduate programs at universities or colleges in North America.
 

TOEIC: an international test designed to measure a person's ability to understand the English used in international business and other professional situations.

GMAT: The Graduate Management Admissions Test is a standardized assessment, delivered in English, that helps business schools assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management.  At OISE we will hone your English language skills to help you succeed in this test.  The GMAT is not an English language assessment, but a high level of English is required.

BULATS: BULATS is an economical, user-friendly test and reporting system for companies and individuals that need a quick, reliable and cost effective way of assessing workplace language skills.

Program content

Comprehension - reading and listening activities for exam practice

• text analysis, identifying key words, predicting, understanding register

• listening for detail, note-taking, summarizing under exam conditions

• word building and storage, collocations, idiomatic expressions and testing

Grammar - focus on developing accuracy for exams

• review of tenses, use of the passive voice, modals, prepositions, relative clauses, etc.

• sentence structure, linking strategies, and style for exam purposes

Expression

• writing examination essay

• written style and appropriacy

• preparing for the speaking test
