In Boston, OISE students enjoy the excitement of a sprawling city and the peace of a tranquil harbor town. They discover endless opportunities in both education and business. And they experience one of the most historical yet forward-thinking places in the USA. This city is at once international and uniquely American.
Boston is older than the United States itself, founded by colonists from England in 1630. The city has been the stage for important events in American history, such as the Boston Tea Party and the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. There is no more suitable place to learn American English and experience American culture for the first time.
Today, as host to many world-class universities, a booming pharmaceutical industry, and several Fortune 500 companies, Boston is an ideal place for university students and professionals to reach for the highest levels of English proficiency. Students can make educational and professional connections while studying, building their international network.
Boston has plenty of opportunities for recreation when students need a break from their studies. But they may not know where to go in a new city.
For this reason, OISE staff organise 3 optional leisure activities per week for the students. The activities are designed to help them relax after days of intensive study and immerse themselves in American culture. They might visit a historical site like the USS Constitution ship, tour a prestigious university, or decorate pumpkins for Halloween. All activity costs are included in the course fee.
Boston is a convenient place in all aspects of daily life, making for an easy transition into life in America and into students’ intensive study.
Boston’s transportation network is the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority (MBTA). The MBTA is very affordable. One pass allows use of both the metro and the bus system, which have late-night services. The most cost-effective way to travel by public transport is to buy a weekly or monthly pass.
There are two metro stations close to the school. These are Arlington (Green Line) and Back Bay (Orange Line).
The weather in Boston varies greatly from one season to the next. On average, winter temperatures range between -2 and 0 degrees Celsius and summer temperatures between 20 and 24 degrees. Winters are snowy. Students are advised to learn about the climate of Boston for the season of their stay and pack appropriate clothing.
